Tackle Football & Cheer

Registration for tackle football and cheer is now open.

The deadline to register for tackle football is Friday, June 19th and cheer is Friday, June 12th.

All other Fall Sports program registration will begin at the beginning of July.

UPDATE 5/15/20:

The Jim Joiner Recreation Center soccer, football, and base/softball fields are open starting Saturday, May 16th. All fields will be for leisure usage only, no team organized events. We will not be taking reservations or rentals. We will have a staff person on site monitoring all ball fields to make sure everyone is following the guidelines set forth.

Such guidelines are:

• Hours of operation will be 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM on Sundays and Saturdays and Dawn till Dusk Monday through Friday.
• The JES ball fields are “NOT” open; only the Jim Joiner Complex fields are open.
• No more than 10 people per gathering regardless of affiliation.
• All people must be at 6 feet apart even within their 10 people gatherings.
• For our two base/softball fields we will have a “one-hour” time limit for usage. If no one is waiting to utilize the field, then such people on the field may continue using it.
• Anyone sick or with a temperature higher than 100.4 cannot be present.
• Participants must practice good hygiene and masks are recommended.

We will see how these guidelines work for the next few weeks and make adjustments as needed/if necessary.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this phase.

UPDATE 4/30/20:

After discussions with city admin and neighboring recreation agencies, we have decided, for the continued safety of our community, that we will keep all ball fields, activity grounds, rec center, playgrounds, and outdoor restrooms closed through the end of the "initial/original" State of Emergency order on May 13th. At that time we will see where we stand and look at re-opening in accordance to the recommended guidelines set by the CDC.

UPDATE 4/6/2020

The cancellation of the spring sports season...

As the COVID-19 pandemic has continued to progress, circumstances have changed each week. As a result of this, Parks and Recreation Departments across Georgia have been dealing with closed facilities and program suspensions during their busiest time. On Wednesday April 1st, area Parks and Recreation reps from; Jackson County, Jefferson, Commerce, Barrow County, Banks County, and Madison County held a conference call to discuss the current situation. The issue of continuing to hope for a change in conditions with the viability of playing a spring season starting so late were discussed.

During our discussions many good points were made including the fact that a firm start date allowing practices or games is not knowable at this time. Also discussed, was the type of quality experience that could be provided for the participants. All Parks and Recreation professionals strive to provide quality experiences for families and the community at large. As such, many of our leagues and programs are interdependent on each other to enhance the program experience.

Unfortunately, all came to the conclusion that with the cancellation of school for the rest of the year, the compressed time allowed for a season, families already having plans for the summer, and the likelihood that circumstances will change again, we have no choice but to cancel all 2020 spring sports programs.

We will issue refunds to all registered participants that can be used toward any recreation program between now and the end of the year.

COVID-19 Pandemic Update as of 03/18/2020...

As you all are aware, we have a pandemic on our hands that has resulted in extreme measures taking place across the U.S. in attempts to control the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We have been monitoring this pandemic and all that has transpired over the last 24 hours. After holding discussions with recreation representatives across our local region and with our City Administration, it has been decided to err on the side of caution and cancel all recreation activities for the next two weeks – effective today, Friday, March 13th through Friday, March 27th.

Canceled activities include all youth and adult athletic/sporting events (practices & games), Silver Sneakers, Fitness and Pickle Ball, Gymnastics, Zumba, Aikido, field/facility rentals, and Childcare. 

As of right now all programs will resume on Monday, April 6th (this is Subject to Change as up-to-date information on this pandemic becomes available). Please note, we will do our best to reschedule activities that were missed during this hiatus. 

Please know that this decision was not made lightly. We realize this difficult decision will have an impact on our participants, parents, and community members in many ways. However, we want to best protect the well-being of everyone involved with the recreation department.
